In 1948,
William and Merle Eaton purchased a farm and land on Billerica Road
in Chelmsford, MA. The couple had recently sold their flourishing Mt.
Pleasant Convalescent Home in Billerica and they desired to return to
caring for the elderly.
Soon the
farmhouse was filled with residents and new additions were built in
1950 and 1952 increasing the total capacity to 40 accommodations for
the aged citizens of the community.
When
William and Merle retired their daughter Shirley Eaton,
R.N. Administrator commenced managing the facility.
An extensive
construction project in 1996 established a rehabilitation suite with large
modern rooms for physical, occupational and speech therapies. After that project,
the facilities name was changed to Sunny Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
During the year of 2007, a major construction project began on the premises.
The farmhouse disappeared and a state of the art modern facility was completed,
bringing the capacity to 93 beds.
